Frequently Asked Questions

About DP...
Doormouse Photography is based out of the Peoria, Illinois area and specializes in newborn, maternity, and portrait photography. While my work is primarily focused in Central Illinois and parts of Northern Illinois, I am always open to travel beyond the immediate locale. Contact me to see if I will travel to you!

Style...
Doormouse Photography subscribes to a photojournalistic style of photography, coupled with a developed artistic vision devised for each individual shoot. This method allows me to capture the real person I'm photographing and results in shots with emotion, movement, and honesty. This style of photography is very candid, free, and fun, with a bulk of the planning done prior to each photo session to allow for a relaxed and memorable experience the day of the sitting. I love capturing special moments that hold so much meaning but flash by in an instant!

Natural Lighting...
Doormouse Photography uses natural daylight to capture the most stunning images. This is achieved either in well-lit indoor areas (as with most newborn sittings), or, preferably, outdoors. Because of this philosophy, I do not have an indoor studio  I believe that the best and most eye-catching images are always produced outdoors or in naturally-lit areas!

Location...
Whether you like the vintage look of old buildings with lots of character, the edgy feel of alleyways and abandoned buildings, or the subtle beauty of natural scenery, I am willing to travel to your location of choice! I am always open and eager to trying new locations that fit the personality of my photos' subjects. However, if you're running low on ideas or need a place to start, don't worry; I always have a few ideas up my sleeve!

Why do you offer Engagement Sessions if you don't shoot weddings?

Some couples wait years after popping the question to hold the big event. But why should you have to wait until you've hired your wedding photographer to have lovely photos commemorating such a monumental step as a couple? Photos, just like certain aromas, bring back memories and strong emotions connected to moments long since passed; by taking photos nearer to the date you actually proposed instead of closer to the big day, you immortalize that moment in time when you were freshly fiancés!
